In keeping with our commitment to open communication with the local communities as construction continues on the new SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, SNF General Hospital of Komotini, and SNF General Hospital of Sparta, we are holding another round of public town hall discussions in those localities, the eighth since the projects began.
SNF hosts town halls on the three new SNF hospitals with local communities
Town hall in Thessaloniki
The first open meeting took place on Monday, December 2 at the Municipal Gymnasium of Filyro, covering progress on the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki. More than 200 people joined the two hours long event. Specifically, the meeting was attended by local residents, local political and religious leaders, representatives of the local health district and administrators, as well as health professionals. The speaker panel included representatives from SNF, the Greek Ministry of Health, project manager Hill International, and project construction contractor AVAX Group, who gave a detailed presentation on the current status of construction and next steps. The meeting was also addressed by Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistocleous.
Town hall in Komotini
The second meeting, focusing on the progress of the construction of the new SNF General Hospital of Komotini, was held a day after the first at the city’s REX Theater. The mayor, the regional vice governor, local MPs, local religious leaders, and representatives from the administrative and medical staff of the existing hospital. The meeting, which was attended by 120 people, was opened by Deputy Minister of Health Marios Themistocleous, who highlighted the spirit of good cooperation that prevails and the Ministry’s commitment to meeting its obligations to ensure the smooth completion of the project. After the presentation was completed, attendees were given the opportunity, as usual, to ask questions, which were answered by the relevant officials. At the end of the process, a doctor who lives and works in Komotini took the floor, and spoke with emotion about the hope comes with the construction of the new hospital, both for the prefecture of Rodopi, as well as for each member of the local community individually.
This series of public town hall discussions will conclude with an open meeting on the progress of the new SNF General Hospital of Sparta on Monday, December 9 at 18:00 on the first floor of the Georgios and Chrysavgi Sainopoulou Cultural Center.
The grant for the design, construction, and outfitting of the three new SNF hospitals is part of SNF’s billion-dollar-plus Global Health Initiative (GHI). The development of the three new state-of-the-art public SNF hospitals reflects a vision shared between SNF and internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano to create model hospitals for the future based on an intrinsically human-centric approach, to high environmental standards, and with cutting-edge technology. Upon completion of the construction and outfitting process, the three new SNF hospitals will be handed over to the Greek state for immediate operation within the framework of the National Health System.
