An SNF Global Health Initiative (GHI) grant to Institut Pasteur will help build data collection and analysis capacity—focusing specifically on the public health emergency of mpox—at six Pasteur Network Centers across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The six Pasteur Network Centers, in Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Guinea, and Niger, are each tasked with disease surveillance in their country and are national reference labs for various pathogens, working closely with their respective ministries of health on epidemic response.
The grant builds on both the GHI’s significant support for infectious disease research and the strength of Institut Pasteur’s international network, wedding the cutting-edge basic science research Institut Pasteur conducts in Paris with the Network Centers’ extensive on-the-ground knowledge. What they learn will help inform effective vaccine distribution in the countries represented.
