The second Panhellenic Scientific Event on Nuclear Medicine, organized by the Clinical Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine at the University of Ioannina in collaboration with the Neurosurgical Institute, took place on September 26-28 in Ioannina. The event, which was open to all health care professionals regardless of specialty, attracted doctors, researchers, and students from all over Greece.
At the opening of the event, Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Senior Technical Grants Officer George Michalakopoulos delivered remarks on behalf of the Foundation, which made a grant as part of its Global Health Initiative (GHI) for the procurement and installation of PET-CT scanners at the University Hospitals of Heraklion, Ioannina, Larissa, and Alexandroupoli. He highlighted the significant impact this equipment has had, both in reducing patient discomfort and eliminating the financial burden of traveling long distances for care. “The progress we have shared with you today is only the beginning,” he said. “It is the type of progress that is only possible through partnerships—between the private and the public sector, but also between all those who share the same vision for the benefit of patients, the scientific community and, ultimately, society as a whole.”
